Our Story

About Us

Khatuba is an Indian ethnic wear label built around hand-finished craft, considered fabric and pieces made to be worn far beyond a single occasion.

The house

Khatuba began with a simple frustration: festive wear that looked beautiful on a hanger and felt like a costume on the body. We wanted ethnic wear with the finish of couture and the ease of something you would actually reach for again — pieces that hold their shape, sit properly at the shoulder, and do not need an occasion to justify themselves.

Every Khatuba collection starts on the table with fabric, not with a trend board. We source, drape and revise until a piece earns its place, then make it in small runs so our karigars can give each one the attention hand-finishing demands.

What we make

Our wardrobe spans stitched and unstitched suit sets, anarkalis, sharara and palazzo sets, jacket-style co-ords, kurta sets and saris — from everyday pieces you can wear to work through to heavily worked festive and wedding edits.

Unstitched sets are for anyone who prefers their own tailor and a fit made exactly to measure. Stitched pieces arrive ready to wear, cut on our own size set and finished in-house.

The craft

Hand embroidery is the centre of what we do. Mirror work, tonal thread, sequin and zari detailing are placed by hand, which is why no two pieces are ever identical down to the millimetre — a characteristic of handwork rather than a flaw.

We work in chanderi, silk blends, georgette, chiffon, cotton and chantilly lace, chosen for how they fall and how they wear through a long evening rather than for how they photograph.

Made in small runs

Because collections are produced in limited quantity, pieces regularly sell out and are not always repeated. If something is showing as sold out, write to us — we can tell you whether it is returning.

How we work with you

We are a small team, and we would rather answer a sizing question properly before you order than process a return afterwards. Send us your measurements, ask which of two colours photographs closer to life, or ask how a fabric behaves in summer — someone who knows the garment will answer.
